The year 2016 became a worth waiting for all the movie lovers worldwide. It produced some of the best-produced movies. From drama to Sci-Fi to animated series, 2016 experienced all the genres which satisfied entertainment fanatics of every age and region. This review tells five best movies of the year which should not be missed by anyone. Here is a brief summary of all.

Captain America- Civil War


A superhero film which is based on the famous character of Captain America by Marvel. The movie was a sequel to the Captain America; The first Avenger from 2011 directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The cast included Chris Evans, Robert Downey. Jr and Scarlet Johnsson. The movie was released in Imax and 3D technology. The visual effects of the movie were hugely appreciated which were a fruitful post-production effort by 20 different studios. It was released in May 2016 and gained US $1.1 billion. It is regarded as the highest grossing movie of 2016 and also the 12th film to receive huge commercial success of all times.




Another superhero movie from Marvel to rule the cinemas in 2016 was Deadpool which was directed by Tim Miller. Ryan Reynolds and Monrena Baccarin were seen in lead roles supported by ED Skrein, Gina Carano, T.J.Miller and Brianna Hildebrand. 20th Century Fox released it in February after a premier in Paris. Ryan Reynolds gained the appreciation for his character, acting and style. The film received appreciation from critics for the humor, visual effects, and stunts. The film was declared as a huge commercial success by grossing nearly US $783 million. A sequence of the movie was announced shortly after release.




Based on a short story “Story Of Your Life”  from 1998, Arriva is a Sci-Fi movie by Denis Villeneuve. It has Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker and Jermy Renner as leading characters. Premiered at Venice Film Festival (September) it was released worldwide in November 2016 by Paramount Pictures in Imax. It reached a high level of business by earning US $147 million. It has also been nominated for Golden Globes next year.


La La Land


La La Land was a romantic comedy movie which by Damien Chazelle. It starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as leading characters. The story encircles around various events which make a struggling musician (Ryan Gosling) and an aspiring model/actress (Emma Stone) to come close and fall for each other.  The story line is based in Los Angeles and features various famous locations of it. La La Land was premiered in Venice Film Festival in August and was later released worldwide in December making a business of US $66 million. American Film Institute regarded as one of the best movies of 2016. It has received various nominations such as Golden Globe for film, screenplay, original song, director, actor and actress.




Moonlight is a drama film which was directed by Barry Jenkins. The film showcased artists Trevante Rhodes, Andre Holland, Janelle Monae, Ashton Sanders and others. It is filmed in Florida and was premiered in Telluride Film Festival. It made a box office success by grossing US $12 million. American Film Institute has added this movie to the must watch list from 2016. It has received a nomination for the Golden Globe Awards 2017 in multiple categories.
